TLC by Helga Kidder

Goldfinch, wren, bluebird dash
to the feeder,
glut themselves
with seeds.
They store their bellies
with food this snowy morning,
flakes covering their grazing ground.

I relax inside with pen and paper,
inviting the muse to strike
her magic wand and burn the page
with words.
So far they hide in my
mind’s alphabet.
I need a hook to pull
a chain of letters into sentences,
into a poem for you
and for me.

Thoughts that will speak to you
my favorite flower,
I water with love and care.

Helga Kidder lives in the Tennessee hills with her husband. She looks on nature as her inspiration but is also influenced by the newspaper and TV. Her poems have recently been published in Orbis, Atlanta Review, Lit Shark and others. Her fifth collection of poetry “Learning Curve” was published by Blue Light Press in 2021.
