Raise the Bar by Lawrence Woll

Raise the bar but not too far
We’ve only just begun
Want to learn but have concern
We want to have our fun
Don’t complicate, we'll hesitate
And never learn a thing
Reach for a star that’s too far
Can’t get the golden ring.

They work to change each little rule
Give them all broken tools
They don’t even have a clue
Just tell them what to do.
Once, you had to make the grade
Or else get left behind,
Now, the system pushes through
Teaches them: cry and whine.
Instead of teaching lessons
Appease at every turn
They’ve lowered the bar too far—
It’s all of our concern

… no more acceptance of a regime that pushes all to the lowest common denominator!
