From the Editor: My Little Someone (celebrating Mother’s Day)

American First Magazine wishes all of the moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Raising children is an important job, and nothing compares to it.

I found myself reflecting on this as I wrote a little something about what it feels like to love someone before they are born. As a mother of five, who had all natural homebirths with all my children, I know the joy that comes from pain and how we grow as people while we nurture the next generation.

I’m not much of a poet, so I won’t call this a poem, but I wanted to share these lines in honor of all the mothers who know that each child is someone before they are even born.

My Little Someone:

You were someone
Before you were born
You breathed within
Before that first breath
You laughed and dreamed
Before your first nap.
You knew me
Before I knew myself
You were me
Before I was someone
You loved warmth
Before the cold shivered,
You ate well
Before devouring everything.
You held me
Before I could touch you
You were alive
Before meeting your birthday.

I disagree, Jessica … that was simply a lovely, loving little poem, and a poem, indeed. Happy Mom’s Day
